ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਤਾਂ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਧਨ-ਮਾਲ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਹੈ) ।
The Sovereign Lord is the nine treasures for me.
ਪਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਐਸ਼੍ਵਰਜ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ, ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਧਨ—(ਇਹੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹਨ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The possessions and the spouse to which the mortal is lovingly attached, are Your wealth, O Lord. ||1||Pause||
(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣਾ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਤੇ ਰਿਹਾ, ਇਹ ਅਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਭੀ) ਜੋ ਜਨਮ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ) ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ
They do not come with the mortal, and they do not go with him.
ਜੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਾਥੀ ਬੱਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਹੋਇਆ ।੨।
What good does it do him, if he has elephants tied up at his doorway? ||2||
(ਲੋਕ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ) ਲੰਕਾ ਦਾ ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਸੋਨੇ ਦਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ
The fortress of Sri Lanka was made out of gold,
(ਪਰ ਇਸੇ ਦੇ ਮਾਣ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਮੂਰਖ ਰਾਵਣ (ਮਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਲੈ ਤੁਰਿਆ ।੩।
but what could the foolish Raawan take with him when he left? ||3||
ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕੋਈ ਭਲਿਆਈ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਭੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ,
Says Kabeer, think of doing some good deeds.
(ਧਨ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਾਣ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ) ਜੁਆਰੀਏ ਵਾਂਗ (ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਾਲੀ-ਹੱਥ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੨।
In the end, the gambler shall depart empty-handed. ||4||2||
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ (ਭਾਵੇਂ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ) ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਭੀ ਮੈਲਾ, ਇੰਦਰ ਭੀ ਮੈਲਾ (ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ) ।
Brahma is polluted, and Indra is polluted.
(ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਨਣ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ) ਸੂਰਜ ਤੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਭੀ ਮੈਲੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
The sun is polluted, and the moon is polluted. ||1||
ਇਹ (ਸਾਰਾ) ਸੰਸਾਰ ਮੈਲਾ ਹੈ,
This world is polluted with pollution.
ਮਲੀਨ ਹੈ, ਕੇਵਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ, (ਇਤਨਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਦਾ) ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਪਾਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Only the One Lord is Immaculate; He has no end or limitation. ||1||Pause||
ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੰਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ (ਭੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ) ਮੈਲੇ ਹਨ;
The rulers of kingdoms are polluted.
ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨ, ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦੇ ਤ੍ਰੀਹੇ ਦਿਨ ਸਭ ਮੈਲੇ ਹਨ (ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਅ-ਜੰਤ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਲਾ ਕਰੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ) ।੨।
Nights and days, and the days of the month are polluted. ||2||
(ਇਤਨੇ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਭੀ) ਮੋਤੀ ਤੇ ਹੀਰੇ ਭੀ ਮੈਲੇ ਹਨ,
The pearl is polluted, the diamond is polluted.
ਹਵਾ, ਅੱਗ ਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਭੀ ਮੈਲੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
Wind, fire and water are polluted. ||3||
ਸ਼ਿਵ-ਸ਼ੰਕਰ-ਮਹੇਸ਼ ਭੀ ਮੈਲੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵੇਂ ਇਹ ਵੱਡੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਮਿਥੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ) ।
Shiva, Shankara and Mahaysh are polluted.
ਸਿੱਧ, ਸਾਧਕ ਤੇ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਭ ਮੈਲੇ ਹਨ ।੪।
The Siddhas, seekers and strivers, and those who wear religious robes, are polluted. ||4||
ਜੋਗੀ, ਜੰਗਮ, ਜਟਾਧਾਰੀ ਸਭ ਅਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹਨ;
The Yogis and wandering hermits with their matted hair are polluted.
ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਭੀ ਮੈਲਾ ਤੇ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਭੀ ਮੈਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ।੫।
The body, along with the swan-soul, is polluted. ||5||
ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹਨ, ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ ।੬।੩।
Says Kabeer, those humble beings are approved and pure, who know the Lord. ||6||3||
ਹੇ ਮੁੱਲਾਂ! ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੱਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਬਲਾ ਬਣਾ । (ਅੰਤਹਕਰਨ ਮੱਕਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਭ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਜ੍ਯ ਹੈ) ।
Let your mind be Mecca, and your body the temple of worship.
ਬੋਲਣਹਾਰ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਬਾਂਗ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਗੂ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਨਿਮਾਜ਼ ਪੜ੍ਹਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮ ਗੁਰ (ਇਮਾਮ) ਹੈ ।੧।
Let the Supreme Guru be the One who speaks. ||1||
ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਬਾਂਗ ਦੇਹ ਤੇ ਨਿਮਾਜ਼ ਪੜ੍ਹ ।
O Mullah, utter the call to prayer.
ਹੇ ਮੁੱਲਾਂ! ਇਹ ਦਸ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਿਆਂ (ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ) ਵਾਲਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੀ ਅਸਲ ਮਸੀਤ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The one mosque has ten doors. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਮੁੱਲਾਂ! ਪਸ਼ੂ ਦੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕੋ੍ਰਧੀ ਸੁਭਾਉ, ਭਟਕਣਾ ਤੇ ਕਦੂਰਤ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ,
So slaughter your evil nature, doubt and cruelty;
ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਹ, ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ ।੨।
consume the five demons and you shall be blessed with contentment. ||2||
ਹਿੰਦੂ ਤੇ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ ।
Hindus and Muslims have the same One Lord and Master.
ਮੁੱਲਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਸ਼ੇਖ਼ (ਬਣਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਵੱਡਾ ਮਰਾਤਬਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ।੩।
What can the Mullah do, and what can the Shaykh do? ||3||
ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—(ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਤੰਗ-ਦਿਲ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਗਲਾਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਜਾਪਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ; ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ) ਮੈਂ ਪਾਗਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ,
Says Kabeer, I have gone insane.
ਪਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਹੌਲੇ ਹੌਲੇ (ਅੰਦਰਲਾ ਹੱਜ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ) ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।੪।੪।
Slaughtering, slaughtering my mind, I have merged into the Celestial Lord. ||4||4||
(ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਣਾ ਵਿਗੜਨਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ) ਨਦੀ ਭੀ ਗੰਗਾ ਨਾਲ ਰਲ ਕੇ ਵਿਗੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਨਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਗੰਗਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
When the stream flows into the Ganges, then it becomes the Ganges. ||1||
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ) ਕਬੀਰ ਵਿਗੜ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ
Just so, Kabeer has changed.
(ਲੋਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਕਿ ਰਾਮ ਦੀ ਦੁਹਾਈ ਦੇ ਦੇ ਕੇ) ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ (ਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
He has become the Embodiment of Truth, and he does not go anywhere else. ||1||Pause||
(ਸਧਾਰਨ) ਰੁੱਖ ਭੀ ਚੰਦਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ (ਲੱਗ ਕੇ) ਵਿਗੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Associating with the sandalwood tree, the tree nearby is changed;
ਪਰ ਉਹ ਰੁੱਖ ਚੰਦਨ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਮੁਕਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
that tree begins to smell just like the sandalwood tree. ||2||
ਤਾਂਬਾ ਭੀ ਪਾਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਛੋਹ ਕੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਟਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Coming into contact with the philosophers' stone, copper is transformed;
ਪਰ ਉਹ ਤਾਂਬਾ ਸੋਨਾ ਹੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
that copper is transformed into gold. ||3||
(ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਕਬੀਰ ਭੀ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਵਿਗੜ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।
In the Society of the Saints, Kabeer is transformed;
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਕਬੀਰ ਹੁਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ-ਮਿੱਕ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਮੁਕਾ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਹੈ ।੪।੫।
that Kabeer is transformed into the Lord. ||4||5||
(ਲੋਕ) ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਤਿਲਕ ਲਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਲਾ ਫੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Some apply ceremonial marks to their foreheads, hold malas in their hands, and wear religious robes.
ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਪਹਿਰਾਵਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਤੇ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਹਾਂ) ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਖਿਡੌਣਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਅੰਞਾਣਾ ਬਾਲ) ਸਮਝ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਇਹਨੀਂ ਗਲੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਚਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।
Some people think that the Lord is a play-thing. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਕੋਈ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਭੇਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ, ਮੈਂ ਮੰਦਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਲੋਕ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਾਗਲ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ; ਪਰ ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ! ਜੇ ਮੈਂ (ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ) ਪਾਗਲ ਹਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਠੰਢ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ (ਸੇਵਕ) ਹਾਂ ।
If I am insane, then I am Yours, O Lord.
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਭਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਦਿਲ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਕੀਹ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ? ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
How can people know my secret? ||1||Pause||
(ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਭੇਟ ਧਰਨ ਲਈ) ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ (ਫੱੁਲ) ਪੱਤਰ ਤੋੜਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਹ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
I do not pick leaves as offerings, and I do not worship idols.
(ਮੈਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ ।੨।
Without devotional worship of the Lord, service is useless. ||2||
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
I worship the True Guru; forever and ever, I surrender to Him.
ਤੇ ਇਸ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੩।
By such service, I find peace in the Court of the Lord. ||3||
(ਹਿੰਦੂ-) ਜਗਤ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਬੀਰ ਪਾਗਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਤਿਲਕ ਆਦਿਕ ਚਿਹਨ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਫੁੱਲ ਪੱਤਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਭੇਟ ਕਰਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ),
People say that Kabeer has gone insane.
ਪਰ ਕਬੀਰ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੬।
Only the Lord realizes the secret of Kabeer. ||4||6||
(ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਉਲਟਾ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਜਾਤ ਤੇ ਕੁਲ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਜਾਤ ਜਾਂ ਕੁਲ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ) ।
Turning away from the world, I have forgotten both my social class and ancestry.
ਮੇਰੀ ਲਿਵ ਹੁਣ ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਨੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਹੀ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
My weaving now is in the most profound celestial stillness. ||1||
(ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਮੈਂ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਣੀ ਉਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ) ਮੈਂ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਮੁੱਲਾਂ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ।
