ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
Bilaawal, First Mehl:
ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਆਪੇ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ॥
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਥੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ ਉਹ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ), ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ) ਰਾਹਦਾਰੀ ਹੈ,
He Himself is the Word of the Shabad, and He Himself is the Insignia.
ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਰਦਾਸਾਂ) ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਦਰਦ) ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।
He Himself is the Listener, and He Himself is the Knower.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਤਾਣੁ ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਰਚ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ (ਇਹ) ਬਲ ਵੇਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
He Himself created the creation, and He Himself beholds His almighty power.
ਤੂ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਦਾਤਾਂ) ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
You are the Great Giver; Your Name alone is approved. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੇਉ ॥
ਹੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼-ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੀ ਏਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ (ਜਿਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੈਂ ।
Such is the Name of the Immaculate, Divine Lord.
ਹਉ ਜਾਚਿਕੁ ਤੂ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਚਿਹਨ ਚੱਕ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੇਰਾ ਭੇਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ । ਮੈਂ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਮੰਗਤਾ ਹਾਂ (ਤੇ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I am just a beggar; You are invisible and unknowable. ||1||Pause||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਧਰਕਟੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥ ਭੂੰਡੀ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਕਾਮਣਿਆਰਿ ॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਇਕ ਵਿਭਚਾਰਨ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਸਮਾਨ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਇਕ ਟੂਣੇ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਭੈੜੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਮਾਨ ਹੈ,
Love of Maya is like a cursed woman, ugly, dirty and promiscuous.
ਰਾਜੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ॥
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹਨ, ਥੋੜੇ ਹੀ ਦਿਨ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ।
Power and beauty are false, and last for only a few days.
ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਿ ॥੨॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਨਣ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
But when one is blessed with the Naam, the darkness within is illuminated. ||2||
ਚਖਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
ਪਰਖ ਵੇਖੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ।
I tasted Maya and renounced it, and now, I have no doubts.
ਬਾਪੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਵੇਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਹ ਭੈੜੇ ਅਸਲੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਖਵਾਂਦਾ ।
One whose father is known, cannot be illegitimate.
ਏਕੇ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਉ ਕੋਇ ॥
ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਿਤਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ (ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ) ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ।
One who belongs to the One Lord, has no fear.
ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
The Creator acts, and causes all to act. ||3||
ਸਬਦਿ ਮੁਏ ਮਨੁ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਮੁਕਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
One who dies in the Word of the Shabad conquers his mind, through his mind.
ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹੇ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਕ ਫੁਰਨਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੋਕ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੁਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸੱਚਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Keeping his mind restrained, he enshrines the True Lord within his heart.
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਐਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ।
He does not know any other, and he is a sacrifice to the Guru.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੩।
O Nanak, attuned to the Naam, he is emancipated. ||4||3||
