ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਪਾਵਤੁ ਰਲੀਆ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਬਲੀਆ ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ) ਜੁਆਨੀ ਵਿਚ (ਸਰੀਰਕ) ਤਾਕਤ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬੇਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਮੌਜਾਂ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
The mortal revels in joy, in the vigor of youth;
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਟੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਲੀਆ ॥੧॥
ਸਰੀਰ ਆਖ਼ਿਰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤੇ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਹੱਥ) ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
but without the Name, he mingles with dust. ||1||
ਕਾਨ ਕੁੰਡਲੀਆ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਓਢਲੀਆ ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਸੋਨੇ ਦੇ) ਕੁੰਡਲ ਪਾ ਕੇ (ਸੋਹਣੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ) ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਨਦਾ ਹੈ
He may wear ear-rings and fine clothes,
ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਲੀਆ ਮਨਿ ਗਰਬਲੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਰਮ ਨਰਮ ਬਿਸਤ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਉਤੇ (ਸੌਂਦਾ ਹੈ), (ਤੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਮਿਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਆਖ਼ਿਰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਇਥੇ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਣੇ ਹਨ । ਸਦਾ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਨਿਬਾਹੁਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਹੈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
and have a comfortable bed, and his mind may be so proud. ||1||Pause||
ਤਲੈ ਕੁੰਚਰੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਨਿਕ ਛਤਰੀਆ ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਜੇ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹੇਠ ਹਾਥੀ (ਭੀ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਦਾ ਛਤਰ ਝੁੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
He may have elephants to ride, and golden umbrellas over his head;
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਿਨਾ ਲੇ ਧਰਨਿ ਗਡਲੀਆ ॥੨॥
(ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਸਰੀਰ ਆਖ਼ਿਰ) ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਣ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜਿਆ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
but without devotional worship to the Lord, he is buried beneath the dirt. ||2||
ਰੂਪ ਸੁੰਦਰੀਆ ਅਨਿਕ ਇਸਤਰੀਆ ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ) ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ (ਭੀ ਮਿਲੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਹੋਇਆ?)
He may enjoy many women, of exquisite beauty;
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਆਦ ਫਿਕਰੀਆ ॥੩॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੇ ਇਹ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਫਿੱਕੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
but without the sublime essence of the Lord, all tastes are tasteless. ||3||
ਮਾਇਆ ਛਲੀਆ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਖਲੀਆ ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਚੇਤਾ ਰੱਖੋ ਕਿ) ਮਾਇਆ ਠੱਗਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੀ ਹੈ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਲੁੱਟ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ), (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-) ਵਿਕਾਰ ਜ਼ਹਰ-ਭਰੇ ਹਨ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ) ।
Deluded by Maya, the mortal is led into sin and corruption.
ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਇਅਲੀਆ ॥੪॥੪॥੫੫॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਪੁਰਖ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖ) ।੪।੪।੫੫।
